Zhiye Peng
Play all audio recordingsPENG Zhiye (彭智烨, b.1985) is a freelance composer living currently in Chongqing, China. He initially studied architecture in Sichuan University, and then took postgraduate courses in composition with Prof. ZOU Xiangping and graduated in 2014 from Sichuan Conservatory of Music. In 2016, he studied in Europe shortly with Yann Robin and Klaus Lang.
He tries to present in his compositions a broad spectrum of sonic landscapes and organic gestures, in a distinct trajectory yet preferably slowly evolving movement that indicates a biotic scenario. He sees unpitched noise as the wide-range ocean, that manmade tones and harmonies depart from and return to. He prefers sporadic sonic events with capably natural dynamics, obviating excessively artificial control over them.
He has been keeping in collaboration with visual artists, his music having been presented at Art Museum of Sichuan University, A4 Art Museum Chengdu, Dimensions Art Centre Chongqing, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, California Museum of Photography and Barbara & Art Culver Center of the Arts, and so forth.
His works are published by BabelScores, a French-based structure specially devoted to diffusing and promoting contemporary music.
