Ashkan Behzadi was born in Iran. He started his first piano lessons at the age of 7, and by the age of 16 he composed his first piano pieces. While studying Architecture at Tehran University, he continued his studies in music with prestigious Iranian and Georgian musicians such as Alireza Mashayekhi in composition, Farman Behboud and Tamara Dolidze in Piano. After finishing his degree in Architecture, he decided to dedicate his life completely to composition so he started his degree in composition and theory at McGill University, in Montreal. In Montreal, he studied composition with Chris Paul Harman and Brian Cherney and electronic music with Sean Fergueson and Philippe Leroux. While many prestigious ensembles such as le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (Nem), Esprit Orchestra of Toronto, McGill contemporary music ensemble, McGill percussion ensemble, Tehran contemporary music ensemble has performed his pieces; he is also an active pianist too.
