Archaic Spaces I

Rites are nothing more than cultural communication. It is the exchange of information among people, who come to a consensus towards a common language. This language should be found within the group and not from external sources. They receive the material from previous generations. And upon this material they elaborate. Gradually they add their own experiences, their own perspectives of the world. This is how a language is being born. This is how an oral tradition and eventually a written tradition is being set forth. This is how a culture is being built. Likewise, in this piece, I simply ignite a conversation.  And invite the performers to share their point of view. We co-create as we are all doing in our daily lives. This principle has not changed ever since the dawn of humanity.

 

Archaic Spaces I was premiered by the Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart in September 2016 in Nicosia, Cyprus.

NOTES:
a) additional items for the singers: 5 pairs of tunings forks in D, A  and 5 pieces of A3 paper sheets.
b) The first soprano should be a coloratura soprano
