Daniele Di Virgilio is an Italian composer-artist and perpetual researcher. His music is inspired by a theatrical imagination and focuses on intensely penetrating the different shapes of human emotions and reactions, coupled with a personal sense of the tragic and the Dionysian. Conceiving composition as a multi-disciplinary, sensorial and social-oriented expression, he is constantly influenced by his experience as a literature, history and theatre lover.

Daniele has a distinguished academic background, earned by studying Orchestral Conducting and Composition at the Conservatory of Turin (MA with highest honours) and Music, Performing Arts, Cinema and New Media at the University of Turin (MA with summa cum laude). After graduating he completed a traineeship in Composition at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, under the guidance of Howard Skempton, Joe Cutler and Richard Ayres.

Since his early student years, he gained recognition both in the academic field (the Giorgio Federico Ghedini scholarship in 2016 as best student in composition classes at Conservatory of Turin) and in several national and international competitions, such as all the awards during the first edition of the International Competition "Michele Novaro", also sponsored by the Italian Deputy Chamber. Awarded by Krzysztof Penderecki, Fabio Vacchi, Luca Lombardi and Roberto Prosseda, amongst others, he had his compositions published by Simon Verlag BW (Berlin) and Casa Musicale Sonzogno.

In 2018 the Teatro Vittoria of Turin hosted the première of his opera La Villa dei Misteri, a fantasy melodrama homaging the historical city of Pompei. His music has been promoted by renowned Italian institutions, such as Mito Settembre Musica and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and performed in many countries, such as England and United States.

He combines his work as a composer and teacher with that of a musicologist, devoting himself particularly to the valorisation and dissemination of the music of XXth century Italian composers. The publication of his volume dedicated to the string quartets of Gian Francesco Malipiero has been published by LIM (Libreria Musicale Italiana).

He teaches Harmony and Musical analysis at the Conservatorio "Antonio Buzzolla” in Adria (Italy).
