Composer and producer, Fernando Riederer was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1977. He studied in his native country with Maurício Dottori, and since 2003 he lives in Vienna, where he studied at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts.

He helped found and organize groups and festivals dedicated to new music: Still in Brazil, he was one of the founders of the "Nova Camerata" from Curitiba, a group specialised in the performance of new music and, together with former colleagues, the "ensemble entreCompositores", focused on the creation and promotion of music. The entreCompositores organized the "Music Today" biennials, bringing an important exchange of national and international groups and composers to the south of Brazil.

Already in Vienna, together with colleagues from the University, he formed the association and Ensemble "Platypus", which focuses its work on the work of young composers. Platypus develops and between festivals, international tours and recordings is today one of the most important groups of its kind in Austria. Platypus organized several "composer marathons", a kind of festival where the newest music produced in Austria was presented for the first time in a professional environment.

As a composer, Fernando Riederer has already written more than 60 works for the most different formations, from solos anda electronic to music for orchestra and operas. He participated in important festivals such as the World New Music Days, Wien Modern and the Biennials of Contemporary Brazilian Music. His music was presented in the three Americas, several countries in Europe and Asia. He was a finalist and received awards in several competitions around the world and for many years he received work grants from the Austrian government, enabling his work as a composer.

He thinks of music as a plastic manipulation of time, mixing different cultural and historical elements. History (general and of music), by the way, is the most important filter of how he understands the arts and life, working elements from different periods in his compositions in a non-purist way. Music, art and history as filters for us to see the world and its possibilities.

He loves literature, cinema and long bike rides.
