Silvio Ferraz, (b. 1959, s.paulo), studied composition at the universidade de são paulo (usp) with gilberto mendes and willy corrêa de oliveira. He completed his studies at royaumont foundation, france, with Brian Ferneyhough and James Dillon and at the Ircam's "académie d'été", with Gerard Grisey and Jonathan Harvey. His works have been performed in Brazil and Europe, and recorded on cd by grupo novo horizonte, camerata aberta,smith quartet and ensemble lami.Doctor in semiotic by pontificial catholic university of s.paulo (pucsp) with a thesis about difference and repetition in music. Currently, he is professor of composition at the universidade de campinas (unicamp) and researcher of fapesp (fundação de amparo a ciência de s.paulo) and cnpq, focusing his studies on the relation between composition and computer compositional environments and use of instrumental extended techniques in new compositions. Director of the international winter festival of campos do jordão for the bienum 2009-2010.
First artistic director of the brazilian ensemble Camerata Aberta.
