Yumiko YOKOI

Born in Japan, Yumiko Yokoi studied composition, music theory and orchestration at the Kunitachi College of Music (Tokyo, Japan), at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (France), then completed her training of composition and electronics in master's degree at the Haute École de Musique de Genève (Switzerland). She also followed the computer music course at IRCAM in 2009-10.

 

She participated to the Centre Acanthes, Journées Contrechamps, Académie Musicale de Villecroze, Voix Nouvelles de la Fondation Royaumont, and she is invited to numerous festivals like Musica de Strasbourg (France), Archipel de Genève (Switzerland), Suntory Hall Summer Festival (Japan), INTER/actions (Bangor University, UK), Takefu International Music Festival (Japan), Collecting Time - Dohjidai Gallery (Switzerland), Exploring the World Project (Wien, Austria), Aspects des Musiques d'Aujourd'hui (Caen, France), Festival Présences (Frontenay, France), etc. 

Her works are broadcast on Radio Suisse Romande, Radio France and RTBF-musiq3, performed by Orchestre National de France, Orchestre National de Lorraine, Brussels Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Contrechamps, Itinéraire, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Linea, Ensemble Reconsil, Ensemble Multilatérale, Ensemble Matka, musiciens of Klangforum Wien... etc. 

In 2012 she founded YProject, a co-production unit of "pianist-composer duo" with Yusuke Ishii. 

 

She is winner of the 25th JSCM (ISCM Japanese Section) Award for Composers, the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust's 6th Annual Pianist / Composer Commissioning Project in USA, the fourth edition of the Composers' Forum ['tactus 2011] in Belgium, also 2nd Prize Nunc of composition, and finalist of the Takefu Composition Award in 2012. She received scholarship awards from the city of Geneva, the Fondation Patiño, and the Nomura Music Fondation.

 

Currently she lives in Paris. Along with her activities as a composer, she teaches at the Municipal Conservatory Georges Bizet (Paris 20th arrondissement).
