Javier María López Rodríguez (teacher, musician, composer, musicologist) was born in Galicia, Atlantic region in the North West of Spain. He started musical studies early in his childhood, obtaining lately two degrees both in the specialities of Flute and History of Art, completing studies of ethnomusicology and musical pedagogy.

He studied composition with José Luis de Delás, professor of Theory and Composition at the Conservatory of Cologne and head of Improvisation at the Music Department of the University of Bonn. He attended to different curses of contemporary music and analytics as well, with teachers as Phillipe Hurel, Friedrich Hass, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf, Hugues Dufourt, Tristan Murail, Eduardo Polonio, Alberto Posadas, Yvan Nomick, Elliot A. Antokoletz, Jonathan Duntsby or Isabel Mundry. 

His catalogue covers chamber and orchestral works, premiered by ensembles as “Galicia XXI”, “Quinteto Pentafonía”, “Taller Atlántico Contemporáneo”, “Parkensemblet”, “Ensemble s21”, “Grupo Instrumental Siglo XX” or “Vertixe Sonora”, some of them as a result of different commissions.

In 2011 he was awarded with the second prize of the international contest launched in Italy by “G.E.R.M.I.”: “Gruppo Europeo Ricerca Musicale Independiente”. In 2012 he was finalist of Ninth Edition of the International Composition Competition “Città di Udine”. He was one of the three winner composers in the Fifth Composition Prize “Counterpoint-Italy”, 2014. His work "Pasar por el aro" was chosen for the "II International Meeting" of "Temp'ora" association, Sofia (Bulgaria) 2013. Moreover, he presented different projects in the "III International Meeting" of “Temp'ora” association, Bordeaux (France), 2014.

He is teacher of History of Music in Conservatoire, and Music in Secondary Education, giving lectures and curses in the academic scope. He has been involved in several projects about improvisation in music. In addition, he has composed music for theatre plays, and he has published some essays and books about musical education, composing or musicology.

If there is something common in my creation, perhaps it is a subtle link about what is the roll of music and sound in our life in terms of society, knowledge or ethics”.
