Mei-Fang Lin

Mei-Fang Lin was born in Taiwan. After receiving her B.A. in Music Composition and Theory from the National Taiwan Normal University, she left for the United States to pursue her graduate studies in composition. She received her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. With the support of a Frank Huntington Beebe Fund for Musicians and a George Ladd Paris Prize, Lin lived and studied in France from 2002-2005. She studied composition with Philippe Leroux and participated in the “Cursus de Composition” at IRCAM in Paris. After graduating from UC Berkeley, Lin taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Composition at the University of Illinois from 2007-2009. She was an Assistant Professor and later Associate Professor at the Texas Tech University from 2009-2017. Since 2017, she returned to her home country Taiwan and became an Associate Professor of Composition at the Taipei National University of the Arts. 

Lin has received awards and honors for her music from the Città di Udine International Composition Competition, Musica Domani International Competition, American Composers Forum/LA Annual Composer's Competition, Fifth House Ensemble Competition, Seoul International Competition for Composers in Korea, Bourges Competition, Look and Listen Festival Prize, Pierre Schaeffer Competition, SCI/ASCAP Student Commission Competition, Luigi Russolo Competition, Prix SCRIME, National Association of Composers, USA Competition, 21st Century Piano Commission Competition, Music Taipei Composition Competition...etc. Her music has received concert performances and broadcasts in over 30 countries in the world, performed by ensembles such as the Nieuw Ensemble (Amsterdam), Kammerensemble Neue Musik (Berlin), Ensemble Surplus (Freiburg), Ensemble Cairn (Paris), Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain (Lyon), Armonia Opus Trio (Buenos Aires), Melos-Etos (Bratislava), Ensemble Concorde (Dublin), Taipei Symphony Orchestra (Taipei), Minnesota Orchestra (Minneapolis), Contemporary Chamber Orchestra Taipei (Taipei), Washington Square New Music Ensemble (New York), Parnassus Ensemble (New York), Alea III (Boston), Chicago Ensemble (Chicago), San Francisco Contemporary Music Players (San Francisco), The California E.A.R. Unit (Los Angeles)…etc. Her music has also been programmed in festivals such as the ISCM World Music Days (Hong Kong, Slovenia), Asian Composers League Festival (Israel, Singapore), Festival Résonances (France), International Review of Composers (Serbia), Asian Pacific Festival (New Zealand), Ostrava Music Days (Czech Republic), Festival Synthèse (France), Vancouver Pro Musica Festival (Canada), Maxis Festival (UK), ppIANISSIMO (Bulgaria), En Red O Festival (Spain)…etc.
