Composer Myunghoon Park received his B.M. in Composition from Hanyang University, and completed Diplom degree and received his M.M in Composition and Electrical Music Composition from Hochschule für Musik Köln. He, then, graduated summa cum laude in Exzellenzstudiengang Komposition at Robert Schumann Musik Hochschule Düsseldorf, and studied under Johannes Schöllhorn, José M. Sánchez-Verdú, Rebecca Saunders, Michael Beil, York Höller, and Zong-gu Yi. His works, which range from solos to symphony orchestras as well as electronic music, consist of intensive contrasts and repetitions, and time and again, displays small batch processes; he takes timbre very important. His inspirations more often come from natural phenomena, namely their changes and movement, and art works. Park received Top Award in Concours in Composition by Contemporary Music Society in Seoul, Grand Prize in ACL-Korea Young Artists Concours, and came in 1st place in Joongang Music Concours; he also won awards in various sections including lied, chamber music, and orchestra music from Seoul Composition Music Festival. While attending Hanyang University, Park, for the first time as a Korean, won awards in composition at Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium. As one of ‘Proud Alumni’ in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of College of Music at Hanyang University, Park was selected as Scholarship Student for Abroad. In 2010, he received an award in composition at Gaudeamus in the Netherlands and subsequently performed in Amsterdam. He was appraised in the newspaper, de Volkskrant, as a ‘Spectacular Work’ what mesmerized the audience. Also, he was invited to perform in Berlin, Germany through Komponistenstudio sponsored by Ensemble Modern. He received awards in Composition Competition by WDR (West German Broadcasting TV Studio) and announced his works at the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, a modern music festival in Witten; his works were recorded on CD in 2012. Park received Grand Prize at the Isang Yun International Composition Prize 2013 and 2nd prize at the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2016. Some of his works were performed by Ensemble Modern, IEMA-Ensemble, nieuw ensemble, Ensemble Handwerk, MAM.manufaktur für aktuelle Musik, Karos Percussion Ensemble, Ensemble 20/21, Studio musikFabrik, Ensemble Eins, PluralEnsemble, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Ewha Philharmonic Orchestra and Soprano Charlotte Riedijk, Violist Barbara Maurer(a member of Ensemble Recherche). He got many commissions by Deutschlandfunk(German Radio Station), Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Stadt Köln(City of Cologne), Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and other professional performers, and his works are performed in Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, New Talents Biennale Cologne, Gaudeamus Music Week and many other music festivals in Europe. Some his scores have been published by BabelScores, a modern music publisher for online in France. He is a composer of Ensemble Eins and an art director, and gives lectures at Hanyang University.
