Rodrigo E. Faina, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 13 October 1976. His work is characterized by the creation of long melodic lines with a very expressive and lyrical character. Some of his work moves in between genres and his unique voice has earned the recognition of numerous artists.

In the last few years Rodrigo has collaborated with different ensembles, festivals and artists from Europe, South America and United States including: Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, DoelenEnsemble, Metropole Orchestra, Zapp4, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, David Kweksilber Big Band, Bulgaria National Radio Symphony, Nederlands Studenten Kamerokest, Platypus Ensemble, Nuevo Ensemble de Segovia, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Etienne Siebens, Martijn Vink, Marteen van Veen, Hans Leenders, Vince Mendoza, Jasper Bloom, Guus Janssen, Claron McFadden, Wolter Wierbos, Marieke Franssen, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, EFG London Jazz Festival, Acht Brücken, Rotterdam International Jazz Festival, Topanga Film Festival, Sofia Music Weeks, Napoli Fringe Festival, FIVC, Festival Espressioni, Dança em foco, YO Opera Festival and many others.

Rodrigo’s music have been performed in very prestigious venues such as the Koeln Philharmonie, WDR Funkhaus Köln, De Doelen and Muziekgebow ann ‘t IJ. 

Rodrigo’s musical education has been very eclectic. He started as guitarist, playing all kind of music genres (Classical, Tango, Rock, Jazz etc). In 2002 he moved to The Netherlands to study Jazz guitar at the Amsterdam Conservatory where he had the chance to study with some of the finest Jazz musicians from Europe and the United States. In the year 2005 he was accepted to study composition with Paul van Brugge and Klaas de Vries at the Rotterdam Conservatory, were a few years later he obtained his Bachelor’s degree and Master degree with honors. During his composition studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory Rodrigo also assisted to classes with Robin de Raaff, Luc Brewaeys, Peter Jan Wageman, Rene Uijlenhoet and Patrick van Deurzen.

Besides his formal academic training Rodrigo also participated in Master classes with, among others, Steve Reich, Maria Schneider, Samuel Adler, Kris Defoort, John Scofield, John Abercrombie and Jack DeJohnette.

Rodrigo has been awarded with grants by the FPK (Performing Arts Found, Netherlands), the HSP Huygens prize for excellence and the Dutch Ministry of Education.
