Notes on this piece

This piece presents a musical story made up of disparate characters based on images of everyday life. One character is industrial, repetitive and perhaps even annoying. Another is slow, ambiguously comical, but also mysterious like an incantation. Another appears only infrequently but makes its presence known through its unique and clumsy sound. In this piece, mechanical characters are pitted against human ones and their stories become intertwined.

Unseen Beneath the Ice is a work written in 2018 for Alan Pierson and Alarm Will Sound for performance at the Mizzou International Composers Festival.
