Korean traditional music divided into two large categories; court music, which is for royal family and a higher stratum of society, and folk music, which is for the commons sing when they work, leisure, have emotions and etc. In this manner, folk music represents the most general feeling of Korean.

'Fantasia on Korean Folk Tunes for two trumpets in C, trombone, and tuba' is inspired by hearstrings of Korean historical background and songs by an oral tradition, folk rhythms, folk games, literature, and composers, which present Korean lyricism, paradoxical regret, mirth and nationality.

The excerpt of representative four folk tunes has been sung over at least ninety years are carefully chosen to be woven as phrases, melodies, and linear textures, rhythmic development, and improvise on segments of folk tunes in various ways.
