Sprach der Wolf is a one-movement work that examines the relationship between pitch and noise in overlapping layers of sound. The work is inspired by the recordings of prisoners of World War I (ca. 1918) that are currently documented in Berliner Phonograph Archive. The title of the work is taken from Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale "Der Wolf und die sieben jungen Geißlein" (The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats). One of the metaphors in the fairly tale, in which the last remaining goat hides in a clock-case in order not to be eaten by the wolf (and be able to tell the mother the story) is used here as the departure point.
