tectonics takes its name from the large tectonic plates that form the outer layer of the earth’s crust. The piece explores the movement of three chords distributed in each of the orchestral families. Over time these chords shift, overlap and eventually fragment as they move throughout the orchestra. The tectonic nature of the chords cause individual lines to be obscured, highlighted and reinforced.
