Notes on this piece

Kylin (麒麟), or qilin, sometimes also called dragon-horse (龍馬), is a mythical creature in China. Kylin is bisexual, in which "ky", derived from dragon, is its male part and "lin", derived from horse, is its female part. The creature is generally understood as non-aggressive and friendly, and thus widely used today as an emblem of hope and peace.

My work is inspired by the dual character of kylin. Pairs of musical fragments that have contrasting characteristics alternate in the piece, via an uneven path, constructing an overall picture of "hope and peace". However, by no means that I try to send an unrealistic message. In the traditional Chinese myth, the characters of any of the creatures are profound and, more or less, complicated. Any simple definition of good or bad or positive or negative, despite sometimes necessary, is overgenralisation. The same principle shall apply to the inner meaning of this work, too.
