Natura viva con glissandi IIb

Natura viva con glissandi IIb is part of a project of a series of pieces whose original core is a musical and instrumental gesture : the

glissando. The first three works are focused on string instruments, always in the duo combination with piano. The piece in question is a

new version of Natura viva con glissandi II for viola and piano : the musical material is revised in its contextualization and developed in

relation to the technical and timbral nature of a renovated instrumentation. From a musical point of view, the paths generated and

developed around this gesture are various and differentiated. Concerning technical and instrumental aspects, the compositional research

focuses on the possible articulations of the « glissando» : the challenge was to simulate in the writing of the piano and the percussion

keyboard parts, whose frequency range is definitively discretized, the perception of a continuous space in the interval movements, which

is possible by nature with strings and percussions as, for example, the musical saw. According to this direction, different gestural

combinations between the two instruments have been elaborated, both gestural and timbral, following reasons of perceptive affinity and

integration in developments, turned towards assimilation or complementarity. All this stems from the conception of the instrumentation as

some hyper-instrument, whose two components expand their palette of technical and expressive ways of playing in a symbiotic and

metamorphic relationship.
