Notes on this piece

The idea of the piece, Insula Dulcamara for saxophone quartet, is

started from a message, finding a hope in hopelessness, which is

found on the last art work by Paul Klee is contained the story while

searching a relationship between music and art works. Klee's last

work, Insula Dulcamara, has captured me to create sound from the

colors, shapes, and the story behind.

Simply, a B-chromatic scale is used as a prime form of 12 tone-

Matrix, and it gives musical ideas such as trying to draw lines and

characters of the artwork on the 12-tone matrix. The piece is built on

an alternative Rondo form, A-B-A-C-A'-D-A"-E-A'''-F-A''''. 'A' is the background of color interprets three chords from F mixolydian scales and a tag of timbre gesture that make sound different from the each section is consist of chromatic scales. 'A' connects each section as a

reconciliation. The others infer gestures of effort to escape the illness that may be also any kind of pain in lives.
