Notes on this piece

The concept of rhizomes discussed by Deleuze and Guattari is very interesting, where the 'multiple
direction' goes out of the linear direction and produces the most abstract and torturous lines. This
concept inspired me to develop the tradition in a rhizomatic way. In this work I combine 3 different
musical languages (spectral music, Javanese gamelan and Balinese gamelan), which are
rhizomatically combined. For example, I analyzed the function of colotomic instruments in
Javanese gamelan with spectrum analysis to build harmony in this work; the original function of
colotomic instruments as structural markers, now become aspects of harmony (see my article for
more details: PULSE Vol. 2, page 48-61:
http://www.pulse.pgvim.ac.th/index.php/pulse). I did
almost the same thing with the rhythmic interlocking aspect of this piece. As the result, now you
can no longer easily detect the gamelan aspects in this work because the developments are no longer
in linear direction, but in the rhizomatic way.
