Notes on this piece

The word "threesome" means a game or activity for three participants. The essence of the composition remains the threesome, triple character aspect of listener's perception. Three layers of timbres are making a game of commonly inhabited acoustic space: acoustic instrumental sounds of recorders and strings, their electronic transformations, recorded timbre of ‘harmonium’ and the virtual reverberating space. All of them form a new entity that is not a simple sum of three parts, and influence the acoustic space of the concert hall.

The concept is a musical experiment based on some researches in psychomusicology investigating cognitive processes, especially on theoretical models of communication in film music (Claudia Gorbman, Nicholas Cook, Scott D. Lipscomb & David E. Tolchinsky).

The Threesome cycle is a series of experiments in object-based auditory and visual perception. Threesome A (2015) was for ensemble, live electronics and video, Threesome B (2016) for ensemble and live electronics, Threesome C (2016) for string quartet and 8-channel tape. The musical matter is almost the same, the duration and the time proportions changes. The reduction of scoring came as a result of my observations and conclusions after consecutive performances.
