...strela do dia

“Santa Maria, strela do dia” is part of the of the book “Songs of St. Mary” written by Alfonso X, El Sabio. The book is a collection of 400 poems in praise of, and stories of miracles wrought by, which had been set to music. In the Middle Ages, the melody would be accompanied by many instruments. In “...strela do dia” these instruments were recreated to the use of small objects. Small motives of it were chosen and stretched in order to prepare the appearance of the real melody at the end of the piece. Musicians are scattered in space to create the sensation of sound and color moving as the traditional “tableaux vivant” of the time.
