Marco Benetti
Play all audio recordingsMarco Benetti was born in 1989 in Busto Arsizio, the city where he studied at the Liceo Classico “D. Crepi” and piano at the “G. Rossini". After graduating from high school he enrolled at the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage of the University of Pavia - Cremona branch, the city where he also began studying composition privately with Gabrio Taglietti. He then continued his compositional studies at the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano “C. Abbado” under the guidance
of Giovanni Verrando. He completed his training by attending the Master in Composition at the Conservatorio di Musica Statale “G. Verdi” of Como in Vittorio Zago's class.
Between 2017 and 2019 and then in 2023 he followed, as a full student, the Specialization Course in Composition at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena held by Salvatore Sciarrino. He was thus able to collaborate with the Quartetto Prometeo, Matteo Cesari and Paolo Ravaglia.
He was a student of the Curs Internacional de Composició Barcelona Modern 2018 - 2019 (Barcelona Modern) under the supervision of Philippe Hurel.
He participated in the IMPULS festival (Graz) in 2019 and 2021. He participated in the ManiFeste 2021 festival (IRCAM). He also participated in the New Music Week 2021 (mdi ensemble) and the International Workshop for Young Composer 2022 (Divertimento Ensemble).
During his participation in the Livorno Music Festival 2023, he received the Peter Maxwell Davis Award for the piece Arghèia.
He has participated in masterclasses with Mario Bertoncini, Ondřej Adámek, Andrea Agostini, Daniele Ghisi, Francesco Filidei, Ivan Fedele, Marco Stroppa, Marco Momi, Federico Gardella, Fabien Lévy, Mauro Lanza, Alberto Posadas, Isabel Mundry, Clara Iannotta, Giorgio Netti, Franck Bedrossian, Mark Andre and Raphaël Cendo.
His music has been played by solo performers such as Matteo Cesari, Paolo Ravaglia, Anton Genzerberg, Antonella Bini, Riccardo Acciarino, Marco Ignoti and by ensembles such as Quartetto Prometeo, Barcelona Modern, Tubi&Corde, Divertimento Ensemble, Schallfeld Ensemble and Ensemble InterContemporain.
Interested in musical theatre, he has three titles to his credit: La traviata norma, staged by the Teatro Elfo Puccini in Milan for the inauguration of Pride Week 2019; Tredici secondi ovvero Un bipede implume ma con unghie piatte, commission from the Venice Biennale (Biennale Musica 2019); Bia. Un passo nuovo, una parola propria, staged by the Macerata Opera Festival 2020.
In parallel with his compositional studies, he undertook the study of conducting with Yoichi Sugiyama.
He is currently attending the Advanced Course in Composition at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Ivan Fedele and Alessandro Solbiati.
He teaches Theory of harmony and analysis at the Conservatorio di Musica Statale Pietro Mascagni in Livorno.
He has collaborated since 2015 with the Milan Symphony Orchestra as a musicologist.
