Tailypo II

Tailypo II is a work for multiple mobile device that uses the feedback produced by the device’s microphone and speaker as the only sound source. In order to create and control the feedback loop, each performer uses an application specifically created for the piece using MobMuPlat. What interests me most about working with mobile phones is how a performer can be freed from a set location and yet have a powerful instrument at their disposal. In Tailypo II, perfomers can freely move around (and in and out of) the performance space. In turn, their location affects the sonic vocabulary. The listeners/viewer will experience a rich texture made up of drones, screeching sounds, and pulses resulting from latency in some devices, all coming from and moving to different directions. Audience members have described the listening experience as being in a forest, surrounded by digital insects.
