Studies in Green Textures: I. Metatextures

The Three Studies in Green Textures explore a type of piano writing that has always interested me: texture. A dense, eluding weave, in which extremely mobile lines intersect, blend together, form different sound layers, letting fragments emerge from time to time that capture the attention and immediately plunge back into the texture, disappearing and letting other elements appear. Perception moves constantly from one detail to another, navigating within the elusive and colored flow of the musical lines. In this type of piano writing, the individual sounds, fast and mobile, lose their identity, in the interest of a global listening.
Metatextures is like an expanded fleeting instant, in which various unseizable fragments of memories fade and blend into one another in a constant yellow/green texture. The interpreter should let the texture breathe, making it wave lightly through subtle dynamic variations.
