Gestuelle

The relationship I try to establish with music during the compositional process aimsabove all at favouring the very moment of creation, that is, when I am immersed in listening to sounds and musical gestures. Gestuelle arose during such a moment, with a simple sound gesture as the starting point for expansions leading to new gestures and sound structures. Those structures were not necessarily intended to be performed in succession; they are subjected to simultaneous treatment in a kind of heterophony of greater or less textural density. In short, the piece has a “harmonic matrix” that surrounds all the structural parts as its basic sound material. This matrix is the initial“affect” that drives the process of creation.
