"... sul divenire" (“... on Becoming”) (2018)

For flute, clarinet (also Bass Cl.), violin, cello and piano

The hypnotic fascination that raises up from the iteration of an articulation that gradually changes itself: this is the core idea of this piece that comes from the expansion of a previous solo piano piece of mine titled “Finestrina sul divenire”(Small Window on Becoming). Around it the swinging between two opposite dimensions of sound quality: the first liquid, flowing, continuous, expressed by long, resonant, glissandi or sustained piano sounds; the second dry, granular, clotted, expressed by a pulsation going toward hard staccato. Passages and transformations, that are since ever part of my poetics, find here their interpretation in terms of "becoming" to and from a fuzzy or distinct, blurred or focused vision. The use of a specific scale (i.e. a particular set of recurring intervals) played in tempered degrees, for the piano, and in microtonal shades, for the other instruments, plunges the whole piece in a coherent and very characterized harmony.
