Encore IV has been commissioned by Greek Composers’ Union and is dedicated to the cellist Nina Vangelis and to the composer Theodore Antoniou. It belongs to a group of compositions, mostly for solo instrument, each one being homage to a great performer. The piece is also in memory of Benjamin Britten, whose cello “Suite I” op.72 fascinated me particularly since first listening. Two short fragments and a memory from “Canto primo” and “Bordone” are mentioned along the piece - divided in three panels: Carme / Recitativo / Capriccio – as to make clear, for me, the will to put Encore IV inside the ordinary outline of the instrumental western string music tradition.
