Descripción
This piece was born in a moment when the Black Lives Matter movement, the climate crisis and the pandemic were collapsing on my soul altogether: I needed to put into sounds this asphyxiating feeling.

I had the opportunity to write for a Japanese Noh singer accompanied by a string trio. I wanted to respect both culture, east and west, without trying to copy or mock neither. I decided to do something debatable: put into the singer’s mouth the absurd, offensive words of Donald Trump, a delirious speech he gave in December 2019 rampaging about windmills (meaning by that actually “wind turbines”, a nice Freudian slip for this modern Don Quixote).

When he pronounced these words, the audience was in raptures, because he shouted them trying to provoke an emotional, not a logical, reaction. If, on the other hand, it is a Noh singer who presents them, declining them in her own way of doing and being (not a native English speaker, using the objects and dresses of her art, singing not according to the rules of western belcanto), there is no escape: we are forced to consider their meaning, to reflect on the implications of these sentences. Stripped of the cheap rhetoric, they give a glimpse of the desperation and asphyxia they were meant to cover.
