Born in 1997 in the United States, Composer and pianist Quentin Lauvray grew up in France and began studying music at ten years old as a pianist. After three years of private lessons, he was admitted to the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Toulouse. Initially composing by himself, he followed the instrumental and vocal composition courses of Guy-Olivier Ferla as an auditor, and then officially joined the class in 2013. There, Lauvray discovered the music of the XXth and XXIst century, and fell in love with it. With his acceptance the following year in the acousmatic composition class of Bertrand Dubedout he learned a new approach to sound and space that he uses in his work to this day. Lauvray’s music aims to provide a multi-faceted listening experience by constantly renewing and transforming the materials in play.

After the performance of his trio Échos at ByPass festival 2016 (Toulouse, France) Lauvray was selected for the final round of the Ile de Création 2016 competition with the Orchestra of Paris. Lauvray was subsequently invited to participate in the 13th Forum of Young Composers with the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne in Montreal where he won second prize for his piece Nodus for 15 musicians. In December 2017 Lauvray was invited to compose Effacements... Résiliences, a triple concerto for the Ukho Ensemble (Ukraine). Lauvray worked as composer in residence with Codes d'Accès-PRIM from 2017 to 2018 where he composed Regard(s), a quadraphonic acousmatic piece focusing on the continuous manipulation of musical perception using field-recordings. Regard(s) was premiered in November 2018 at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, and then broadcasted on CBC radio. As a participant in Manifeste 2019, he recently completed a work for Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Lectures have been given on his music in the USA (UCLA), UK (RNCM), Canada (McGill, UdeM) and France.

Lauvray has given master classes at the Joseph-François Perrault high school in Montreal. He is also executive member of McGill Association of Student Composers, and teaches private lessons in analysis, history, and composition of XXth and XXIst century music. Lauvray is currently completing his undergraduate degree at McGill University where his primary teachers are Chris-Paul Harman and Philippe Leroux. Through masterclasses, lectures and private lessons he has also had the chance to work with Georgia Spiropoulos, Luis Naon, Stefano Gervasoni, Jean-Luc Hervé, Gilbert Amy, John Rea and Franz Martin Olbrisch.
