Djordje Marković is a composer and performer from Novi Sad (Serbia). He studied at the Academy of Arts at the University of Novi Sad with Zoran Mulić where he first obtained his B.A. degree and then his M.A. degree in composition. He also studied Philosophy at the same university, graduated in Aesthetics and Philosophy of Music, and completed Postgraduate studies in Composition at Kunstuniversität Graz with Beat Furrer. His works have been performed at Afest in Novi Sad, KoMA and International Review of Composers in Belgrade, Showroom of Contemporary Sound in Zagreb, Kings Place Festival in London, 48thDimitria fest in Thessaloniki, Southsite in Hong Kong, Weidner Center for the Performing Arts in Green Bay, Wisconsin (USA), International New Music Festival Crossroads in Salzburg, Rainy Days Festival in Luxembourg, the festival of contemporary music Contrasti2019 in Trento, Impuls Academy in Graz, MIXTUR in Barcelona, Kresge Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA), New Music Week in Larissa (Greece), International New Music Festival reMusik in Sankt Petersburg (Russia), then in Paris, Banja Luka, Ljubljana, Trieste and numerous local concerts throughout Serbia. His music has been performed by London Sinfonietta, Ensemble Nikel, Ensemble DissonArt, Ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin, Klangforum Vienna and PPCM, Contemporary Music Ensemble Synaesthesis, Ensemble Studio 6, Ensemble Construction, St. George's Strings, ensemble MotoContrario, Aleph Gitarrenquartett, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, etc. In 2013, his piece “Ambiente” was selected as one of three winning submissions in the London Sinfonietta’s R.S.V.P. Call for Works, and premièred alongside Tenney’s “Postal Pieces” at the Kings Place Festival; and in 2015 his piece “Three Pictures for Four Saxophones” won the first prize at the Rudolf Brucci National Competition of Composition. He is also active in the field of improvised and experimental music.
