Hilary Mullaney (b. 1979, Co. Mayo, Ireland) is a composer based in Dublin, Ireland. Her practice explores the interaction of composer and place through the use of field recordings, voice, objects and instrumentation, taking the form of fixed media work, installation and improvised performance. Her compositions have been broadcast and performed at various festivals and concert events worldwide. With funding from the Arts Council of Ireland she has studied at the Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis in Paris in 2005 and completed the Mamori Sound Project residency in Brazil with Francisco Lopez in 2008.  In 2013 she completed a PhD at Plymouth University titled ‘The Composer Isn’t There: a personal exploration of place in fixed media composition’, and has lectured on the subject of electroacoustic music and composition to both undergraduate and postgraduate students since 2001.
