Notes on this piece

Inspired by the writing of K-Punk, the music of Burial, and Konstantin Raudive’s Electronic Voice Phenomenon experiments, Angel | Animal is an exploration of the atmospherics and spectrality of sonic media; the ways in which sound surfaces render time as an audible materiality and how this media is haunted by the presence of an audible past. Spirit voices and electricity are interwoven within a fluid harmonic sound world that is extended beyond the range of human hearing into pure physical presence. 4 subwoofer cones project sub- audible frequencies into the performance space, with the sound being made audible through preparation. The piece is not a cerebral attempt at understanding, but rather a revealing of the immaterial presences implicit in sound through the visceral and the resonant.

‘I like vocals to be like that, like a night cry, an angel animal. Old hardcore tunes would throw these sounds in, anything to create the rush, the descent into another world. I love this one feeling, it only happens to you when you’re out in the cold, when your down, this shiver attempts to warm you up, bring you back. For a moment you get this weird, eerie distant feeling like its just for you’ (Burial interview, The Wire)
