Notes on this piece
DRIFTING

- To proceed or move unhurriedly or aimlessly
- To behave without a clear purpose or goal
- Variation or random oscillation about a fixed setting
- A gradual change in the output of a circuit
- A driving movement, force, influence; impulse
- ......

drifting consists of 6 sections which are played without a break. Most of these sections only has some general ‘rules’ to observe but 2 sections has very detailed material that must be synchronized.
This, for me, creates a frame to work against, rather than doing “anything” so to speak. Drifting is thus a improvisational piece but in a structured order. But it is important that the piece is reinterpreted during each performance, rather than fixed during rehearsals.

drifting is the second part in cycle IV from the large scale work “synthetic fragments”.
