Autre

commissioned by ISCM for Nieuw Ensemble. It was premiered during International Gaudeamus Music week 2006 in Amsterdam. « Autre » in French means « other » or « another ». In this piece, first of all I would like to direct the imagination to a world where one finds another reality which is other than we used to know. A world in which words become powerless, but only music, music only, can witness its eternal mystery….secondly, « Autre » conveys the meaning of « Alter Ego » ( an another Me ) in a spiritual context, invisible but real. The piece is consisted of three main parts, a simple A B A’ (or Coda) in a free form. It focus mainly on the delicacy and the purity of the high register sounds that give the piece a sense of transparency, by which a transcendent meaning may find its expression.
