Bagatelle

Stemming out from a series of miniature chamber works, this piano work was written as a response and a reflection to an “other” reflection (extracted from a set of bagatelles by Filipino composer Jonas Baes) to Jerome Kern’s and Oscar Hammerstein II’s “All The Things You Are.” This is done within the context of Jonas Baes’ numerous attempts to initiate musical discourse and delve deeper in the explorations of the “self” through the process of creating an “other” self. In this setting, the captured image manifests through (re)translating what is construed as a translation of a text, reflecting back what appears as reflections of an image, (re)simulating what has been existing as a simulation of a process—a reflection of a reflection.
