Notes on this piece

After reading Tang dynasty poet, Liu Zhongyuan’s work, “Little Shitang Mind”, composer decided to write a piece of music for Chinese chamber ensemble as a reflection to Liu’s work. Composer found the poem very musical and poetic imagery. There was full of inspiration inside the text such as: “Smell the sound of water”, “the heart of the music” and “Sitting on the lake, surrounded by bamboo ring together”. The description of the beautiful scenery was one of the important contexts in this piece of music.

Composing short piece somehow is quite similar to writing short poem. Capturing the spirit and emotional feeling of the poet was the major idea to composing this piece. The elaboration, simplicity of structure and sound realization appeared, leading to an organic development; the sound of the music became the evocation of the scenery nature, turbid water, “falling” light intensity and other related movements and metaphors of the original poem. Slow tempo, colorful timbre and layering sonority are all intensively characterized the prismatic, shimmering and shady natural atmosphere.
