Karin Wetzel

Born in Berlin, in 1981, Karin studied composition and music theory with Gerhard Tittel, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf, Gesine Schröder and German Toro-Perez. She holds degrees from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig and a Master in electro-acoustic composition from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Exchange studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the CNSM in Paris completed her musical education.

Her work involves orchestral, solo, ensemble and vocal music, electro-acoustic compositions and installation. She is particularly interested in works comprising different forms of electro-acoustic means and new media. Her work has been performed by musicians and ensembles such as Johannes Kalitzke, Ensemble Modern, Antonio Politano, Prime Recorder Ensemble, Ensemble Avantgarde, Steffen Schleimeracher, Andrea Kiefer and Duo Leise Dröhnung. Her works are performed at fastivals such as Archipel Festival Genève, cresc... Biennale Frankfurt am Main and Festival Spring in Havanna.
