Notes sur cette pièce
Echo me[mi:](iv), Me-ah-ry in Korean, for piano trio is inspired by the life of killer
whale, which resembles a part of human being's life. In this context, the piece is
focused on how sound is resonated as a communication tool with own interpretation.
Each subtitle presents the relationship among the trio as a symbol of nature.
Vocalization indicates to find each other with certain gestures, which finally meet at the end of the section and reaches to the second part, 'Interrelated' expresses two groups of killer whales in the deep ocean, which resembles human being's life. The violin and tenor saxophone represents the migration of orca, killer whales, and the piano indicates the ocean as catalyst. This section naturally leads 'Echolocate' to speak about indispensable of harmonized the society we live. It may be needed to reflect ourselves to be better person would be closer to make better foundation of our places and planet.
The certain conceptual chords in the piece are built from the modes of D Dorian and E Phrygian, and B Locrian and Bb Aeolian. Four of them are transposed by fourth/diminished fifth, altered, and superimposed sometimes to create imaginations of reflections of 'Echo' that represents interactive mind. And, abstract timbre gestures including voice part as shout/speaking/singing-like at the beginning gradually take to a concrete shape in pitches till the end. As title infers 'Mi', it is dominated throughout the piece as reflection toward the chaotic world.
