Born in 1937, Paul Méfano studied composition with Darius Milhaud at Paris Conservatory. Later, he studied with Olivier Messiaen at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Also he took lessons with Henri Pousseur, Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen at Bâle while he assisted to the Domaine Musicale concerts and Darmstadt Seminars. From 1966 to 1968, he lives in United States. in 1969 he moves to Berlin. In 1970 he moves back to France and he devote himself to composition and conducting, creating the 2e2m Ensemble. Paul Méfano has been Director of Champigny-sur-Marne (1972-1988) and Versailles (1996-2005)conservatories and professor of composition and orchestration at CNSMDP. During his carrier, Paul Méfano awarded several prices: Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite (1980), Grand prix National de la Musique(1982), Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres(1985), and Sacem's Symphonic Music Price(1989).
