Notes on this piece
Vigilia (Wakefulness)This work was written in 2008 and it is dedicated to the Quinteto Sonorama, who premiered it on the same year in Buenos Aires. It is part (among other pieces that were written later) of a group of works in which thematic material is the main subject of exploration. Thus, in Vigilia, a melodic theme consisting of five sounds appears once and again, in constant variation. At the same time, a periodic rhythm played by the piano, produces a continuum over which every succesive variation is displayed. The closing section features a blaze, a shining blast, as a liberation from the rhythm and from the pulsed / periodic time. Both sections represent two moments: the wakefulness and the dream. Some categories of the past such as "theme and variations" and "accompanyied melody" are here present and questioned at the same time. This questioning is presented not only in regards to the function of these categories but also in regards to its historical value.
