Malte Giesen

Malte Giesen studied composition/computer music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart with Marco Stroppa and Oliver Schneller, followed by further studies at CNSM Paris with Gérard Pesson and at Hanspeter Kyburz and electroacoustic music with Wolfgang Heiniger at HfM Berlin. He taught at HfM Karlsruhe, HfM Berlin, and UdK Berlin. Since 2021, he has been the director of the Studio for Electroacoustic Music at the Academy of Arts Berlin. He has received various awards and scholarships, including the 1st prize of the German Music Competition Composition 2009, a prize from the SWR Masterclass Orchestral Composition 2012, the Carl von Ossietzky Prize of the City of Oldenburg 2016, Neue Szenen III of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the 2nd prize of the Stuttgart Composition Prize 2017, and the Promotional Award of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation 2020. He has had numerous performances both nationally and internationally, collaborating with various ensembles and performing at various festivals.
