Leo Marcus (born 1945 in Chattanooga, Tennessee) grew up in Hollywood and currently lives in Santa Monica. With a Ph. D. in Mathematical Logic from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, music was never his prime vocation. He has worked in academia and industry in various fields of mathematics, computer science, computer security, cryptography, and quantum computation. He is currently working in the area of systems biology.

His musical activities include piano performance (primarily chamber music) and composition. He is director of the SoCal Chamber Music Workshop.
“My composition process is a combination of discovery and design, control and chance. I write what I like to listen to, or think I will like eventually. The result is obviously affected by music I know and love – written by others, filtered and combined unconsciously.”
