Clara Maïda is a French composer both based in Paris and Berlin.

She holds a PhD by publication in Composition (University of Huddersfield, UK), a Master in Musicology, Creation, Music and Society (Paris 8-Saint-Denis University, FR), a French National Diploma for Piano Teaching and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (Aix-Marseille 1 University, FR).

She was a Guest Composer of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm of the DAAD for one year (2007-08).
Her DAAD project, Shel(l)ter for ensemble and electronics, was co-produced by the DAAD and Ultraschall Festival, with the support of Impuls Neue Musik (French-German-Swiss fund for contemporary music).

She received several international composition awards such as a 1st Prize at Kompositionspreis der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart 2011 (DE), the Berlin-Rheinsberger Kompositionspreis 2008 (DE), an Honorable Mention at Earlay Donald Aird Prize 2008 (US), an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2007 (AT), and a 2nd Prize at Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award 2002 (US).
Other recognition for her work includes two Finalist selections at Musica Nova Competition (CZ, 2017 and 2008). Laureate of the Hors Les Murs Programme of the Paris French Institute 2012 (FR), she also received the Berlin Senat Composition Grant 2015 (DE) and the Berlin Akademie der Künste Composition Grant 2006 (DE).

She has been commissioned by prominent ensembles, festivals and institutions including the French Ministry of Culture and Communication (with Arditti Quartet, L’Itinéraire, 2E2M, Accroche Note and Proxima Centauri), Radio France, ECLAT festival (Stuttgart), Donaueschinger Musiktage, Paris International Guitar Festival, the French SACEM/Klang! festival (Hamburg), the Berliner Künstlerprogramm of the DAAD and Lyon National Orchestra.
She was a composer in residence at electroacoustic studios including the Electronic Studio of the Berlin Technische Universität (2017, 2012, 2010, 2009 and 2007), the GRM Paris, Césaré Reims, Art Zoyd Valenciennes (2018 and 2014), the GMEM Marseille (2009, 2005, 2000, 1998 and 1997) and the Electronic Studio of the Berlin Akademie der Künste.

Her music has been featured at France Musique (Paris), Maison de La Radio (Geneva), the Akademie der Künste (Berlin), the Instituut voor Sonologie (The Hague), at festivals including ECLAT (Stuttgart), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK), Donaueschinger Musiktage (DE), Ultraschall and Inventionen (Berlin), Mixtur (Barcelona), BIFEM (AU), Transit (Leuven), Klang! (Hamburg), Emufest (Rome), Musica (Strasbourg), Electrovisiones (Mexico City), Weimarer Frühjahrstage für Zeitgenössische Musik (DE), Ars Musica (Brussels), French May (Hong Kong), Les Musiques (Marseille), amongst numerous other festivals and venues all around the world.
She has collaborated with many ensembles and soloists (Arditti Quartet, Neue Vocalsolisten, Percussions de Strasbourg, L’Itinéraire, KNM Berlin, Resonanz, Accroche Note, 2E2M, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, Alternance, Proxima Centauri, OENM, UI New Music, Argonaut, CrossingLines, Lyon National Orchestra, Pellegrini Quartett, Heather O’Donnell, Seth Josel, Stephen Gosling, Theo Nabicht, Armand Angster, Jan Michiels, Thierry Miroglio, Caroline Delume, Martine Joste and Michael Weilacher).

She was a Guest Professor of Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona) in 2015.

She was invited to present her transdisciplinary research at the intersection of music composition, human sciences and scientific models (structuralist psychoanalysis, Deleuze and Guattari’s philosophy, and nanoscience) in international colloquiums on Deleuze and Music at Trinity College Dublin, Roma Tre University and Orpheus Instituut Gent, and on Music and Psychoanalysis at IRCAM Paris (Entretemps and Superflux journals-École Lacanienne de Psychanalyse).
She gave lectures, seminars and masterclasses at Brunel University (London), the University of Huddersfield (UK), Monash University (Melbourne), Universität der Künste, Technische Universität, Akademie der Künste, Inventionen festival and Mario Mazzoli Sound Art Gallery (Berlin), Paris 8-Saint-Denis and Rennes 2 Universities, Mixtur and Klang! festivals (Barcelona and Hamburg), Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory of Music and Rueil-Malmaison Superior School of Arts (Paris), Spectrum (NYC), and Cerisy-La-Salle International Cultural Centre (Normandy).

Her music has been broadcasted on many radios such as Radio France, the BBC, various German radios (Deutschlandradio Kultur, SWR, Deutschlandfunk, Nordwestradio-Radio Bremen, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Hessischer Rundfunk), Radio Suisse Romande, DRS2 (Basel), Resonancias (ES), ABC Radio (AU), Radio Horizon (ZFA), Radio Grenouille (Marseille) and Non Radio (MX).

She has published articles in music journals in Berlin and Paris (Positionen, Klangzeitort-Universität der Künste and Filigranes) and in reviews of psychoanalysis (Superflux-École Lacanienne de Psychanalyse, Paris) and literature (Les Cahiers Bleus, Troyes).

Two monographic CD have been published by the Berlin DAAD /Edition RZ Label, with the support of MFA (in corpore vili, 2010), and by the GMEM Marseille/Metamkine Label (Anania Iniji, 2002).
