Areum Lee is a composer currently based in Korea and Germany. She often focuses on metaphysical concepts from everyday life and the inherent power of the word, which she integrates into the music with her own intuitive and religious interpretations. She is also interested in connecting the essential meanings in music with different mediations and tries to make invisible figures perceptible through theatrical factors or electronics.

Her pieces have been performed in Korea as well as in Europe, including at the Pan Music Festival, Tongyeong Asian Composer Showcase and the Bludenzer Tage of zeitgemäßer Musik, as well as in numerous ensembles such as oh Ton, Mobile Beats, Rot, EWCM, NAMES, Klangrauschen, Reflexion K and Quartetto Maurice. In 2020 and 2021 she received a residency grant in Lauenburg and Eckernförde. Her works are available through Babel Scores.

She studied at Hanyang University in Seoul and at the Bremen University of the Arts with Prof. Jörg Birkenkötter. She then successfully completed her studies in excellence composition at the Robert Schumann University with José María Sánchez-Verdú. She received master classes and private lessons from Mark Andre and Eva Reiter. She is a member of project ensemble morph and Projekt NET, since 2022 lecturer in composition at Hanyang University.
