Maurício De Bonis

Composer and pianist Mauricio De Bonis was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1979. An Associate Professor at the São Paulo State University (UNESP), he obtained his Bachelor degree in Composition at the Music Department of the University of São Paulo (USP), where he had the composer Willy Corrêa de Oliveira as his mentor. In that same institution he obtained his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2012, which included research at the Henri Pousseur collection at the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel. He attended the 40th Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt and has lectured at American universities in California and Louisiana. De Bonis is a frequent participant in the main contemporary music festivals in Brazil, and his works have also been performed in Germany, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Italy, Colombia, USA and in the ISCM World Music Days 2017, in Canada. His "sung pantomime" The Circumwanderers for three tenors and orchestra was commissioned and premiered in the 2021 Opera Season at the Palácio das Artes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), and his lyric drama Spring (for soloists, women's chorus and bells) was commissioned and will be premiered in 2023 at the São Paulo Municipal Theater. He has collaborated with ensembles such as Fractal Guitar Trio (Mexico), Land’s End Ensemble (Canada), Icarus Ensemble (Italy), and the Brazilian groups Abstrai Ensemble, Camerata Aberta, Percorso Ensemble and Materiales Ensemble. He is a frequent performer of contemporary music, especially in duo with the soprano Caroline De Comi.
