Gibberish Shreds Vol. 1

Gibberish Shreds Vol. 1 is a piece for myself to perform which is played, sung, and pedaled all at once by me live. Gibberish Shreds as a concept utilizes forms of quasi language-like noise expressions through the violin and voice which aim to explore, imitate, and confront the depths of mankind’s angst and gray areas. The midi pedals are used for manipulating and processing the live sound to elevate the music’s spatial affect. I have pushed myself to my limits both physically and psychologically in this performance, and it represents my most idiosyncratic sound world/thought process.

The inspiration behind this project was my interest in non-sensical sounds combined with very fast gestures, and my willingness to create series of different pieces out of it. I have always been hearing these sounds in my head and trying to notate them for instruments. The thought of “what if I can directly imitate these sounds with my mouth?” was the beginning of my experimentations. The significance of this piece is its directness, and filterlessness between my brain and music. It is in its most expressive and raw form.
