Notes on this piece

»mote of dust« arises from the idea of oboistVicente Moronta to deal musically with migration and all its interconnections.Since this was far too complex an undertaking, the composer decided on a different path, namely to thematise the presence of the human race on our planet in a fleeting way.
Much is in motion in »
mote of dust« - both literally and figuratively. Sounds come from many sources, and move to a lesser or more noticeable extent. The instrumentalists sonically walk the entire playing space (if space allows), just as the audience is invited to stand up and walk with their ears, because each sound source offers something unique. Frequencies are felt differently depending on where you stand in the room. This is equally true for the instrumentalists. They scan the entire sound space by playing similar, heard or unheard sounds elsewhere, by creating perceptible interferences when they play certain multiphonics.

The title comes from the book by the American astrophysicist Carl Sagan (1934-1996) called "Pale blue dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space", as do the completely unrecognisable and almost recognisable fragments heard on the sound track, which were recorded by the composer himself.
