Michele Foresi (they/them) are an Italian composer of acoustic and electronic music whose work explore the musical performance beyond the acoustic dimension, focusing on its visual, physical and playful side.

Born in Macerata (Italy) they graduated in violin and completed a bachelor in philosophy with full marks and honours. After years playing different kinds of music – from contemporary to pop, from classical to electronic impro, as a soloist or in ensembles and orchestras – they decided to focus on their own music. They studied composition and electronic music in Bologna (Italy) and in Helsinki (Finland), graduating with Paolo Aralla with full marks, and in Germany with Fabien Lévy, graduating with full marks from Meisterklassenexamen in composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig.

During the years they attended courses with Francesco Filidei, Simon Steen-Andersen, Rebecca Saunders, Carola Bauckholt, Clara Iannotta. Their music has been performed across Europe, working with talented performers like Wu Wei, Alfonso Alberti, Ryoko Aoki, as well as wonderful ensembles such as Linea, Musikfabrik and Yarn/Wire. In 2017 they were composer in residence at “Ghislierimusica” in Pavia, where they wrote for the Zero Vocal Ensemble the chamber opera Sei cose impossibili prima di colazione (Six impossible things before breakfast). In 2020 they are member of the academy “Voix Nouvelles” in Royaumont (France), and guest composer at the “IMPULS-Festival für Neue Musik Sachsen-Anhalt” in Germany.

They currently live in Berlin and continue investigating different languages and media, working in collaborations with podcasters, dancers, sex workers and video artists.
